Matty Dagradi is one of many talented artists residing on West Rock Avenue in Westville where she has her studio. Westville is a historic neighborhood in New Haven, Connecticut that has attracted a large community of artists over the last decade.
Matty was born in Brooklyn, New York and graduated from Pratt Institute. Her early career included working for Davis Delaney Printer (Alexander Ross Agency) and for the US government on design of exchange literature and the magazine "Amerika". Marriage took her to New Jersey where she raised a family and taught watercolor at the Summit, New Jersey adult evening school. After being widowed, Matty decided move to the emerging artist community in Westville at the suggestion of her daughter, Terry Dagradi, who is also a talented photographic artist.
Matty continues to work as an artist and takes classes at Creative Arts Workshop, Gateway Community College and Southern Connecticut State University as well as attending numerous workshops. She is currently teaching watercolor at Hamden High School and instructing a small group of young artists in an after-school program in Westville.
In addition, Matty is actively involved in the greater New Haven arts community including the Hamden Art League and North Haven Art Guild - exhibiting at both and receiving awards. She exhibits at Art Space and the Yale Physicians Building and participates in City Wide Open Studios. Her work can be view by appointment at her studio.
